30 year milestone

This year, Millgate celebrates three decades at the forefront of the new build prime property market.

‘Vision, design, craftsmanship and service. These are Millgate’s values. Four Words. One ambition. To be the best luxury homes developer in the South East.’

Masters of design, Millgate create beautiful homes, from classical mansions to lavish apartments in some of the most desirable locations in the South East of England.

Founded by Graeme Simpson in 1987, this small team of master craftspeople quickly established themselves as a house builder to be reckoned with. With a growing team of professionals and artisans with true vision, just seven years after conception, Millgate secured a sought-after Evening Standard New Homes Award, and by 1997 the team had built and sold their first £1million apartment.

In 2001, Graeme Simpson was awarded the much coveted Institute of Directors, Entrepreneur of the Year, marking another great achievement in their history. By 2003, the Business had caught the eye of the national press and saw Millgate achieve 40th position in the Sunday Times list of the UK’s fastest growing unquoted companies.

The success continued, as the Millgate brand became a familiar sight in the Home Counties; splashes of deep blue hoarding could be seen liberally dotted around the very best locations in the Home Counties, with their trademark luxury homes being created behind them.  As Millgate entered its 20th year, turnover had hit an eye-watering £50,000,000.  By 2012, Millgate’s average sales value exceeded the £1 million mark, a vision that would never have been foreseen back in the Eighties, when the average value of a house was a scant £115,000.

A year later, Millgate built and sold their one thousandth property.  The very majestic Highview Manor in Boars Hill, Oxfordshire which reached a sale value of £5,000,000. This house was exceptional in every way with four acres of land, and a stunning indoor swimming pool and private tennis court.

This upward trajectory of success did not go unnoticed by other house builders who watched in admiration as the business continued to grow from strength to strength.  Their visual success saw the acquisition of Millgate by Oaktree in 2014 when the business was in the enviable financial position of £40 million of net assets.  2014 was also a winning year for Millgate with a double gold triumph at the What House? Awards.

Today, in 2017, Millgate has continued to lead the field in building homes which capture the imagination.  Their intuition for business has successfully led them in finding the very best locations as they continue their quest to create homes that set themselves apart from mass production housebuilders.

David Simpson talks of the passion that sits within the business:

“In terms of skill, we set the bar very high at Millgate.  Our attention to detail, underscored by our pride in creating a first-class product, has earned us an enviable reputation in the industry which we are immensely proud off.  I am confident in saying that all of our staff are passionate about being the very best in the industry.  I must give credit to our dedicated sub-contractors and suppliers, we couldn’t build to such high standards without these partners who are carefully selected to mirror our vision.”

Millgate marks this, their 30th year with the construction of a unique development in Cobham, Surrey.  Knowle Hill Park Country Estate marks yet another milestone in their illustrious timeline.  Preserving 45 acres of parkland, the development of 29 exclusive homes is sure to bring further awareness to this businesses outstanding collection of dream homes.
