Location, The Pastures

A Prime Location

The name Woodley means 'a clearing in the wood'. That wood may well have been Windsor Great Forest and evocative names still exist, such as Wheeler's Green, Norris Green and Woodley Green.

One hundred years ago, Woodley was a small rural community with less than one thousand inhabitants. Bread and milk were delivered by horse and cart and on Sunday afternoons the Muffin Man made his rounds with a tray of muffins on his head, announcing his presence by ringing a handbell.

Nowadays, despite its semi-rural location, Woodley is extremely well connected.

A short drive from The Pastures are local shops including a Waitrose store, while only a few miles further is Reading, the historic County Town of Royal Berkshire. This vibrant cosmopolitan metropolis offers a wide assortment of high street names and individual boutiques. The stylish Oracle shopping centre, located along the banks of the River Kennet provides a wealth of fashion and lifestyle brands, so shopping for essentials and luxuries is a pleasure. In addition there are many fine restaurants, bistros and brasseries for those who dine out regularly, as well as a ten screen Vue cinema.

The Pastures is situated within easy reach of the attractions of Henley-on-Thames, Maidenhead, Ascot and Windsor. More locally, picturesque villages such as Hurst, Twyford, Wargrave and Sonning offer ancient churches, quaint village greens, farmers markets and rustic country pubs.

Parents anxious to find good schools for their children can rest assured knowing that the area boasts an excellent selection, including Beechwood Primary School and St Dominic Savio Catholic Primary School in Woodley, St Nicholas Church of England Primary School in Hurst, The Piggott School in Wargrave and Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning.

With its close proximity to the M4 motorway, The Pastures offers direct links to the M25 and Heathrow and Gatwick airports. London is also within easy reach, with regular trains from Winnersh Triangle station to London Waterloo and London Paddington - ideal for work, shopping or a night out in the capital.

So, whether you prefer to stay close to home, or venture a little further afield, The Pastures is perfectly placed to fulfil all your lifestyle needs.

The Perfect Surroundings

The Pastures is a mere stone's throw from some of the most outstanding scenery that Britain has to offer. With the idyllic Berkshire countryside providing an inspirational backdrop, there is something for everyone.

Just beyond The Pastures' immaculately landscaped gardens lies Dinton Pastures Country Park. This conservation area situated on the eastern edge of the village, boasts over 300 acres of varied wildlife habitats including lakes, rivers, meadows and woodland. Available activities include fishing, windsurfing, canoeing and sailing, together with public bird hides and an abundance of footpaths and self-guided nature trails to enjoy.

For keen golfers there are several excellent courses to choose from in the area including those at Sonning, Bearwood Lakes and Castle Royale, while first class local leisure facilities include the John Nike Leisuresport Complex in Bracknell, where ice skating, dry ski and snowboarding activities are provided.

If this sounds a little too energetic, the surrounding countryside is the ideal place for leisurely walks or picnics, whether it be along the banks of the River Loddon or in the ancient woodland criss-crossed with footpaths and bridleways.

This abundance of open space is the perfect foil to The Pastures’ sophisticated style, creating a haven of tranquility where you can relax, unwind and savour every moment.
