Millgate Homes takes on gruelling challenge for charity

Two teams from Millgate Homes are preparing to take part in the Coins annual 3 Peaks Challenge, competing against teams from the construction industry in a gruelling race to climb Britain's 3 highest peaks and raising money to help the impoverished and less privileged around the world.

On Saturday 17th May, the courageous walkers will set out to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours. The event will start at Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands, move on to Scafell Pike in the Lake District and finish at the foot of Snowdon in North Wales.

After the success of the team in 2007, this year more Millgate employees are taking part and a second team has been formed. Oliver Hicks, Jon Furneaux and Richard Milton who took part in the challenge last year will be joined by Phil Withey and David Lambert to make up the men's team. In the women's team, Leanne Mawson and Gemma Fawell, last year's support crew, will be joined by Karen Longley and ‘honorary girl' Steve Eke. Supporting and transporting the teams will be Simon Holbrook (one of last year's walkers), Nicola Woods and Alison Slaughter.

But first the teams have the task of raising at least £12,000 to be able to participate.

The funds raised by the challenge will go towards supporting organisations with a focus on construction projects that address the needs of the impoverished and less privileged people around the world. These organisations are aid agency ‘CARE International', ‘Habitat for Humanity' which tackles poverty housing, and ‘Stepping On' which seeks to improve the outcomes of disadvantaged and disabled children and young people.

Last year's Millgate team raised £7,690 and completed the challenge in 23 hours and 59 minutes, making them one of just 23 teams out of 45 that took part to complete the challenge within the 24 hour timescale. This year's teams are hoping to improve on this time and raise even more money for this worthy cause.

If you can help Millgate's teams raise the funds they need to take part in the challenge, donations will be gratefully received. You can donate online at www.justgiving.com/millgatehomes or send a cheque made payable to 'Coins Foundation' addressed to Oliver Hicks, Millgate Homes, Millgate House, Ruscombe Lane, Ruscombe, Twyford, Berkshire RG10 9J T.
