Millgate team rise to gruelling charity challenge

An intrepid team from Twyford-based developer Millgate Homes has just completed a gruelling challenge in the name of charity. Oliver Hicks, Jon Furneaux, Simon Holbrook and Richard Milton, aided by team drivers Leanne Mawson and Gemma Fawell, joined 45 teams from across the construction industry to participate in the 5th annual Coins 3 Peaks Challenge and raise funds for CARE International.

The goal was to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. The challenge took place on 12th-13th May in inclement weather, starting at the foot of Ben Nevis in Scotland, moving to Scafell Pike in the Lake District and concluding at the foot of Snowdon in North Wales. The Millgate team put up a fantastic performance, completing the challenge in 23 hours and 59 minutes, making them one of just 23 teams to complete within 24 hours. Land Buyer and team leader Oliver Hicks says:

“This really was the challenge of a lifetime – we are delighted to have completed in under 24 hours. Every member of the team showed true dedication in training for the event, and we could never have completed the challenge without our backup team, Leanne and Gemma, who took turns driving us between the locations and ensured that we had plenty of hot food to keep us going. We’d like to thank everyone who supported us in exceeding our original target of £6000.”

The 2007 challenge has so far raised £344,000 for CARE International, taking the total amount raised over the past five years to over £1 million in support of the charity’s mission to fight global poverty and injustice.
