Local duo rise to the Thames challenge for a worthwhile cause
While many spent the Easter weekend relaxing, Oliver Hicks and Stephen Colman were giving their all in a gruelling race along the Thames from Devises to Westminster. The duo, who competed in the annual 125 mile DW Race in a two-man kayak, finished a respectable 58 th out of 116 teams. They paddled non-stop for 28 hours 7 minutes and are now celebrating having raised in excess of £1100 for The Alzheimer's Society.
Oliver who, since graduating from university has been working as a Land Buyer at Twyford-based Millgate Homes, explains:
"We wanted to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause, but in a way that presented a true challenge - the DW Kayak Race provided the perfect opportunity. It was hard going but truly worth it - not only have we had a great experience, but we have managed to raise a good sum for The Alzheimer's Society.
"I would like to thank all those who supported us through this challenge - friends, family and colleagues. Millgate has been great, both in terms of providing generous sponsorship and encouragement throughout."
Oliver and Stephen are still raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society. Anyone wishing to make a donation should contact Oliver on 07773 338293.
