Moving out of a home where you have spent many happy years can be an emotional rollercoaster. This was especially true for Tricia Brown, a Maidenhead widow who re-married three years ago:
‘When we married, my new husband re-located from Derbyshire to my house in Maidenhead, where we have spent the past three years very happily. However, we now spend more time travelling, and although I love my home and garden, it is high maintenance. After much soul-searching, we decided that it was time to move on.
‘The decision was very difficult to make, as I had spent years getting my house exactly how I wanted it, and it also held many memories. I knew that in order for us to move our new home had to be something really special.’
Upon making the decision to sell, the Browns enlisted Braxtons as their agent and began making plans. Mrs Brown explained to the Braxtons agent the reason behind their move as their property was being valued, and this led to the suggestion that they should consider a forthcoming Millgate Homes development of fourteen 2 bedroom apartments being built on Maidenhead’s Shoppenhangers Road:
‘Braxtons, while valuing our property, suggested that Robin Hill may be of interest to us – although at that stage the site was just a levelled piece of land! They showed us the plans, took us to site and we fell in love with the views across the golf course. The location really offers the best of both worlds – you have a feeling of being in the country, yet you are just half a mile from Maidenhead town centre. The fact that I am a member at Maidenhead Golf Club was an added bonus!’
So enamoured were the Browns that they put their name down on the plot which they believed would have the best views across the Golf Course. Several visits to site followed during construction, but as the reality dawned that the move would mean leaving behind her beloved home, Tricia began to have doubts:
‘I really just got cold feet – here we were, about to make this massive lifestyle change and I panicked. It was a visit to the site with my son that made me realise that we were definitely doing the right thing – we were looking out of the window in an apartment that was still just a concrete shell, and he pointed out that we would never find anywhere that would suit us better.’
Since this revelation, the Browns are looking forward to their change in lifestyle:
‘We were very lucky – our house sold within the first morning of being on the market, so we could really concentrate on planning for the move. I am so excited, I have visited site numerous times and Millgate have been great, offering assistance whenever we have needed it. I know exactly how the apartment will look when I move in, and have had great fun ordering all my soft furnishings and deciding on décor.
‘We can’t wait to move into our new home – it will give us so much more leisure time to enjoy our golf, and the fact that we have a beautifully landscaped garden without the hassle of maintenance is great. We will be able to lock up the apartment and go travelling safe in the knowledge that our home is secure, and everything will be as we left it on our return.’ |
